The dream of “Deux Frères Wines” commenced in 2008, when Retief and Stephan du Toit decided after much soul searching to develop a boutique vineyard on Le Present Farm, which is situated on the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountain in the Stellenbosch wineland district.

“Deux Frères Wines” is a family owned and run business that relies on four principles:

  • Responsibility – towards each other/our fellow man/our environment.
  • Integrity – produce only the best at value.
  • Industry – we work hard and take responsibility for our actions.
  • Individuality – “we do our own thing”.

They provide a select product to their customers of uncompromising quality, which they can trust, while living up to their responsibility of sustainability.

Stephan studied viticulture at Elsenburg Agricultural College before he started working on L’Avenir Wine Estate. In 2000 he started making wine under mentorship of Francois Naudé. In 2006 he joined the team at Marianne, also based in the Simonsberg area of Stellenbosch. While an employee of Marianne, he was seconded to the owner’s other farms in France for a harvest. He was fortunate to gain experience at Chateau Montlese and Chateau Desteux in St. Emillion and also Chateau La Clemence in Pomorol. Retief has followed a career in the financial markets. Retief is responsible for the farm finances and loves to get involved in the tasting room.
